WAYPOINTS in the German Bight can be found on the Dutch page.

In most cases a one time download of this collection of waypoints will be not enough.
Changes occur too often in this area...
The latest changes you may find here.
Like in past years, I intend to update the collection once a week.

Note: When at sea, a not timely updated collection may induce a false sense of security.
[This is especially true in the Wadden area where important buoys may be relocated 3 to 5 times a year].
Therefore, do not pass on your downloaded file to others, but let them visit this page themselves: http://filo.nl/users/nopoints/indexeng.php

All waypoints in the German Bight are based on official and very recent Dutch and German Government publications.
There is no other source that is more up to date: not your paper maps or almanacs, nor your digital maps, nor any collection of waypoints on the internet.

the Dutch 'Berichten aan Zeevarenden' (Notices to Mariners):

the German 'Bekanntmachungen für Seefahrer' (you guessed it;-)

  1. A small (even cheap hand held) GPS can provide up to date 'maps' even when there is no laptop on board
What do you need? A simple plan in 5 steps...
    1. A (home or office) computer with an internet connection
    2. A GPS with NMEA connection, and the possibility to store at least 100 waypoints (a map option is not necessary, a plotscreen would be nice)
    3. A small cable to connect GPS and computer
    4. A computer program to enable GPS and PC to talk to each other
    5. A source of actual positions of buoys
[ For a lot more on this subject, see my Dutch pages: http://filo.nl/users/gps and http://filo.nl/users/gps/gegevens.php ]

  2. In some sailing areas positions of buoys change so fast that even expensive digital maps with (also expensive) very regular updates can't keep up.
Hence.. the waypoints collection. And, in my view, the need for the government to provide actual positions of buoys on a daily basis.

  3. The Dutch government does provide a list of all buoys in Dutch waters about once every x weeks.
This list is incorporated in the software program WaypointsGPS (in Dutch, Euro 79 for the first year). At the moment there is no other way to obtain it.

  4. For my sailing area (which is in great part NOT covered by WaypointsGPS) I maintain a collection of positions of buoys that is updated every week.
This collection can be imported in almost any dedicated software program to transfer it to your GPS: in just a couple of minutes.
You can download parts of this collection from the Dutch page.
